Popeyes is cooking...

that spicy chicken...but I had the catfish instead. Tyler had never had Popeyes, but when I lived in New Orleans it was a staple to my diet. A good friend and I would go to the regular $5 all-you-can-eat and spend about 4 hours filling our college bellies full of grease. I knew I was done when I started eating the sides like red beans and filling in the gaps. The good times always ended in abdomenal pains. But that's good eatin'.

  1. You know what's weird? I never thought Popeye's chicken had the addictive quality that other chains (read: KFC) have. I always found it too salty, hard, and lacking in flavor.

  2. I don't find it addictive, but I do find it the most flavorful. Salty?...possibly, but since I eat it maybe once a year now, that's not how I remember it. I'm also not sure what diffences occur based on where it is prepared - did you have yours in the Phillipines or the states? Either way, I'm not up for defending Popeyes honor since its just fast food, but it sure tastes good to me. Also, if you missed it, be sure to look at the eGullet review of the various chicken joints - last I read, Popeyes was an overwhelming favorite.

  3. Yeah, there's probably a difference. Popeye's Philippines operation has shut down. I couldn't understand how Beyonce can get hooked on the stuff. It tasted like just salted fried chicken. I did like their "Jambalaya" though. As far as fast food jambalaya goes, it's fantastic!! haha :)
I'll give the eGullet thread a look, thanks!
